review 2:
I saw the show in Eugene (I've been to every
Watt show here for the past few years and never been disappointed),
and thought it was good but different. The
new material was cool, but new--you could tell the guys were still feeling each other out.
I'm guessing it will be much tighter as the tour continues. The beginning of the
show was marred by some vicious feedback coming from Watt's mic, but it was dealt with.
The show was a bit shorter than I've come to expect,
but many of the standards were played: The Red and the Black, Walking the Cow,
etc. A bit disappointed that he played no fIREHOSE stuff, as I've come to expect
them. I thought Pete's organ was smokin'
...I can't say I didn't miss Tom's guitar, but I was
definitely not disappointed. Highlight for me: "Sister Ray"--I was so
stoked..even my pal Brian, who can't stand the Velvets, was moved.
Every Watt show I go to, I try to bring someone
along who hasn't heard of Watt...every show, Watt gains a new convert. This one was no
different.
Mad props to Watt, Jer, and Pete.
